Public Relations

Doris McAdams, Public Relations

I started my career in federal service in August 1967 when I joined the United Air Force.  After leaving the U. S. Air Force I went to work the Navy Regional Finance Center.  My primary responsibility was processing travel vouchers.  After a few years I became supervisor of the group.  My next position was that of system accountant where I resolved issues with the Standard Accounting and Reporting System (STARS).  I wrote changes to enhance the system, tested the changes once programmed.  Once changes were released I traveled to sites in the United States and outside of the US training system users on how the changes would effect their processes.  After Defense Finance and Accounting Service capitalized my office, I became supervisor of another group working on a different accounting system that we converted to STARS.  Over the years I worked on various system developments one of which was the Defense Travel system.  I retired April 30, 2006.

I am now in my second career as a realtor with Century 21 Redwood Realty.  I Chair the Stafford County Architecture Review Board; I am a member of the Stafford Diversity Advisory Coalition; President, NARFE Chapter 1270 Woodbridge; membership chair and correspondence secretary for the Stafford County Historical Society.   I am excited to service the Virginia Federation of Chapters as co-chair for Public Relations and can’t wait to get the NARFE message out to the public.
